Hunter Andrew Renner Pleads Guilty

The sentencing for Hunter Renner, the most recent to plead guilty in the “known wolf” case, is set for November 3, 2024. Renner is one of several hunters who illegally killed wolves in Wisconsin and then passed them off as coyotes.

In 2017, Renner and other hunters killed six wolves in Burnett County, Wisconsin, and registered them as coyotes.

A joint investigation between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service uncovered the illegal activities and led to charges against 11 individuals.

Previous Guilty Pleas

Renner's guilty plea follows those of three other hunters in the case. Christopher Anderson, Cody Brettingen, and Donavan Heeringa all pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the illegal killing of wolves.

Anderson was sentenced to eight months in prison, Brettingen to six months, and Heeringa to three months.

The remaining seven defendants in the case are scheduled to go on trial in October 2024.
