Bayern Munich's brightest prospect suffers health setback
Jamal Musiala ruled out indefinitely after heart condition diagnosis
19-year-old attacking midfielder to undergo further tests
Bayern Munich and Germany's rising star Jamal Musiala has suffered a health setback that will keep him out of action indefinitely, the club announced on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has been diagnosed with a heart condition and will undergo further tests to determine the extent of the problem.
Musiala has been one of Bayern's most impressive performers this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists in all competitions.
He has also been a regular for Germany, making 17 appearances and scoring one goal.
Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said in a statement: "This is a big blow for us and for Jamal.
"He is a very talented player and we were all looking forward to seeing him continue to develop.
"Our thoughts are with him at this time and we will do everything we can to support him in his recovery."
Musiala's diagnosis is a reminder of the importance of heart health in athletes.
According to the American Heart Association, sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in young athletes.
The AHA recommends that all young athletes undergo a pre-participation physical examination to screen for heart conditions.
