Coventry seal a third successive Championship victory

Coventry City secured a third successive Championship victory under Mark Robins with a hard-fought triumph over local rivals Derby County at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The hosts took the lead through captain Kyle McFadzean after 10 minutes, but Tom Lawrence quickly restored parity for the visitors.

However, Coventry regained the lead just before the break through on-loan Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.

Derby's winless run extends to 16 games

Derby failed to find an equaliser after the break meaning their winless streak has now been extended to 16 matches.

The Rams have picked up just one point out of a possible 48 since Wayne Rooney left the club to take charge of Major League Soccer side DC United in mid-June.

Assistant manager Liam Rosenior, who is currently in interim charge of Derby, admitted the club are in a "difficult position".

McFadzean lauds Coventry's 'togetherness'

Coventry skipper McFadzean praised his team's spirit after the victory.

"It was a really tough game, but we showed great togetherness and character," said the defender.

"We're really pleased with the win and it's a great way to start the season."
