Cubs Predicted to ‘Move On’ From $80 Million Slugger – Under 1 Condition

The Chicago Cubs signed Seiya Suzuki to a one-year, $18.4 million contract this past offseason and since then he has struggled mightily to find his offensive stroke.

After Suzuki went 1-for-4 on Thursday night in the Cubs' loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, his batting average dropped to .225.

He has just one homer this season and his on-base percentage is a mere .307.

In 47 games this season, Suzuki has struck out 42 times

In his previous posting seasons in Japan, he struck out just 17.8% of his time at the plate.

This season, he is striking out at a 30.9% clip.

Suzuki is owed $80 million over the next four seasons, but the Cubs could look to move on from him if he does not improve his performance.

Per The Athletic, the Cubs are likely to give Suzuki the rest of the season to prove himself.

If he does not improve, the Cubs could trade him or release him this offseason.

Suzuki is a popular player in Chicago and the Cubs would likely prefer to keep him, but they are not going to pay $80 million to a player who is not performing.

If Suzuki does not improve, the Cubs will have no choice but to move on from him.
