Duke Football: A Historic Program With a Bright Future

A Legacy of Success

Duke University has a rich football history dating back to 1892. The Blue Devils have won 13 conference championships, including 11 Southern Conference titles and two Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) championships. They have also played in 38 bowl games, including 10 major bowls.

Duke's most successful era came in the late 1930s and early 1940s under legendary coach Wallace Wade. The Blue Devils won five consecutive Southern Conference championships from 1936 to 1940 and finished in the top 10 of the AP Poll four times during that span.

Recent Success and a Bright Future

After a period of decline in the mid-20th century, Duke football has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. The Blue Devils have won three ACC Coastal Division championships in the past six seasons and have played in three bowl games during that time.

Duke's success in recent years is due in large part to the leadership of head coach David Cutcliffe. Cutcliffe has been at Duke since 2008 and has a record of 75-65. He is the winningest coach in Duke football history and has led the Blue Devils to their first ACC championship game appearance since 1989.

The future looks bright for Duke football. The Blue Devils have a talented young roster and are poised to compete for another ACC championship in 2023. With Cutcliffe at the helm, Duke football is in good hands.
