Guardians 3, Dodgers 1: Shohei Ohtani Creates the 45-45 Club, But Teoscar Hernandez Exits With Injury & Dodgers Offense Remains Dead

Guardians 3, Dodgers 1

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium. Shohei Ohtani made history by becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 45 home runs and steal 45 bases in a single season. However, the Dodgers' offense struggled once again, as they were held to just one run on five hits. The loss dropped the Dodgers to 77-62 on the season, while the Guardians improved to 75-64.

Ohtani Makes History

Ohtani hit a solo home run in the third inning off of Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. He then stole second base in the fifth inning, becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 45 home runs and steal 45 bases in a single season. Ohtani is now just the second player in MLB history to hit at least 45 home runs and steal at least 40 bases in a season, joining Barry Bonds, who did it in 1996.

Hernandez Exits With Injury

Teoscar Hernandez exited Tuesday's game in the second inning with a left oblique strain. Hernandez was injured while trying to make a diving catch in left field. He is expected to undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the severity of the injury.

Dodgers Offense Struggles Continue

The Dodgers' offense has struggled mightily in recent weeks, and Tuesday's game was no exception. The Dodgers were held to just one run on five hits against the Guardians pitching staff. The Dodgers have now scored just 11 runs in their last four games, and they have not scored more than three runs in any of their last seven games.

The Dodgers' offense is now ranked 29th in the MLB in runs per game, and they are averaging just 3.8 runs per game over their last 30 games. The Dodgers have been unable to generate any consistent offense, and they have been struggling to score runs with runners in scoring position. The Dodgers are now 10-16 in their last 26 games, and they have fallen to third place in the NL West, 10.5 games behind the San Francisco Giants.
