Man, 74, killed in crash
The death toll in the horror bus crash in Edinburgh's Cowgate has risen to one after a 74-year-old man succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
The crash happened around 8.10pm on Saturday, August 13, when a double-decker bus operated by Lothian Buses struck a pedestrian on Cowgate, near the junction with Candlemaker Row.
The man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but later died as a result of his injuries.
Police appeal for witnesses
Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.
Constable Craig McAteer of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the man who died.
"We are carrying out extensive inquiries into the circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information that could assist our investigation, to contact us."
Lothian Buses statement
In a statement, Lothian Buses said: "We are deeply saddened to confirm that a pedestrian has died following a collision with one of our buses on Cowgate on Saturday evening.
"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased.
"We are cooperating fully with the police investigation and will provide any assistance we can.
Cowgate road closures
Cowgate was closed for several hours following the crash while police carried out their investigation.
The road reopened around 12.30am on Sunday, August 14.
