Mariners Place Catcher on the Injured List; Cal Raleigh Recalled

Seattle Mariners catcher Korey Lee has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist sprain, the team announced Wednesday. Cal Raleigh has been recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to take his place on the active roster.

Lee suffered the injury while swinging at a pitch in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He was replaced by Luis Torrens and did not return to the game.

The Mariners said Lee is expected to miss 10-14 days. The move is retroactive to Tuesday, so he is eligible to return on July 25.

Raleigh, 23, is batting .283 with 14 home runs and 44 RBIs in 64 games at Triple-A this season. He made his MLB debut with the Mariners last year, batting .219 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 58 games.

With Lee out, Raleigh will likely start behind the plate for the Mariners in the next few games. Torrens will serve as his backup.

The Mariners are currently in a tight race for a wild-card spot in the American League. They are 49-46 and trail the Toronto Blue Jays by one game for the second wild-card spot.
