Leeds United's Championship Rivals Confirm Shock Managerial Decision Ahead of Sunderland Test
Middlesbrough part company with Chris Wilder
Middlesbrough have parted company with manager Chris Wilder after just 11 months in charge. The decision comes as a surprise, with Boro sitting eighth in the Championship table and just five points off the play-off places.
Wilder joined Middlesbrough in November 2021, replacing Neil Warnock. He led the club to a 14th-place finish in the Championship last season and had guided them to eighth place this season, winning 11 of his 29 games in charge.
However, Middlesbrough have lost their last two games, including a 4-1 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday. That result appears to have been the final straw for the club's hierarchy, who have decided to part ways with Wilder.
Boro's search for a new manager
Middlesbrough are now on the lookout for a new manager. It is unclear who will be appointed, but the club are expected to move quickly to find a replacement for Wilder.
A number of names have been linked with the job, including former Middlesbrough player Jonathan Woodgate and ex-Watford boss Rob Edwards. However, it is also possible that Middlesbrough could appoint a more experienced manager, such as Steve Bruce or Neil Lennon.
Sunderland test next for Boro
Middlesbrough's next game is at home to Sunderland on Saturday. The Black Cats are currently top of the Championship table, so it will be a tough test for Boro's new manager.
It will be interesting to see how Middlesbrough perform under their new manager. They have a strong squad and should be challenging for a play-off place this season. However, they will need to find some consistency if they are to achieve their goals.
