Lightning to strike twice... Sam Parkin shares Preston vs Sunderland score prediction

Sunderland legend Sam Parkin issues his prediction for Tuesday's Carabao Cup clash with Preston

Parkin made over 200 appearances for the Black Cats between 1992 and 1997.

Preston North End and Sunderland will go head-to-head at Deepdale on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup. Tony Mowbray's men head into the game in good spirits having won their last two matches in all competitions. Preston, meanwhile, are winless in their last three games and will be looking to bounce back on home soil. Ahead of the game, Sunderland legend Sam Parkin has shared his score prediction with Chronicle Live. Parkin, who made over 200 appearances for the Black Cats between 1992 and 1997, believes that Sunderland will win the game 2-1. He said: "I think Sunderland will win 2-1. They're in good form at the moment and they've got some good players in their team. Preston are a good side too, but I think Sunderland have got the edge." Parkin also praised Sunderland's new signings, particularly Amad Diallo and Jewison Bennette. He said: "Diallo is a very good player. He's got pace, skill, and he can score goals. Bennette is also a very good player. He's very tricky and he's got a great left foot. I think they're both going to be great signings for Sunderland." Sunderland will be looking to reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time since the 2015-16 season. They have been drawn at home to Manchester United in the next round if they can get past Preston.
