Manchester United Eyeing January Swoop for Bayern Munich Outcast
Rumours abound that Manchester United are preparing a January bid for Bayern Munich outcast Marcel Sabitzer.
The Austrian midfielder has struggled for game time at the Allianz Arena since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021.
Manchester United are reportedly lining up a January move for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena.
The 28-year-old Austrian international has fallen down the pecking order under Julian Nagelsmann and has made just four appearances in all competitions this season.
Sabitzer, who joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021, is said to be frustrated by his lack of playing time and is open to a move away from the German champions.
United are in need of midfield reinforcements following the departure of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the summer.
Sabitzer would provide manager Erik ten Hag with a versatile option in the middle of the park, as he can play as a deep-lying playmaker or in a more advanced role.
The Austrian has a wealth of experience at both club and international level, having won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Super Cup with Bayern, and is a regular for his country.
If United are able to secure Sabitzer's signature, it would be a significant coup for the club and a major blow to Bayern.
The German champions are reportedly reluctant to lose the midfielder, but they may be forced to sell if he continues to push for a move.
Sabitzer's contract with Bayern expires in 2025, so United would likely have to pay a significant fee to prise him away from the Allianz Arena.
However, given his lack of playing time and desire to leave, United may be able to negotiate a favourable deal.
If Sabitzer does make the move to Old Trafford, he will be expected to play a key role in United's midfield alongside the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
The Austrian is a technically gifted player with a good range of passing and an eye for goal.
He is also a hard worker and is always willing to put in a shift for his team.
If he can rediscover his best form at United, he could be a valuable addition to Erik ten Hag's squad.
