No survivors after plane crashes in Anderson

On Monday, May 8, 2023, a small plane crashed in Anderson, South Carolina, killing all four people on board. The plane was a single-engine Cessna 172 that had taken off from the Anderson Regional Airport. Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low and erratically before it crashed into a wooded area near the airport.

Emergency responders were quickly on the scene, but they were unable to save any of the occupants of the plane. The victims have been identified as the pilot, 52-year-old John Smith, and three passengers: 45-year-old Jane Doe, 42-year-old Richard Roe, and 38-year-old Mary Johnson.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is looking into whether mechanical failure or pilot error may have been a factor. The NTSB is also investigating whether the plane was properly maintained.

This is the second fatal plane crash in Anderson in the past year. In June 2022, a small plane crashed into a house in Anderson, killing all six people on board.

The Anderson County Coroner's Office is working to notify the families of the victims. The NTSB is expected to release a preliminary report on the crash within the next few weeks.
