Police Name Man Killed in Edinburgh’s Cowgate Bus Incident

Fatal Collision

The man who died in a collision with a bus on the Cowgate in Edinburgh has been named by police as 34-year-old Darren Inglis from Edinburgh.

The incident happened at around 8 pm on Friday, 13th January 2023, when a single-decker Lothian bus was in collision with a pedestrian on the Cowgate near the junction with Candlemaker Row.

Emergency services attended, but Mr Inglis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cowgate Incident Investigation

Police Scotland is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Inglis, with enquiries being carried out by the Road Policing Unit based at Fettes.

The road was closed for several hours on Friday night to allow for a full collision investigation.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information that can assist their investigation to come forward. Anyone with dashcam footage of the incident is also asked to get in touch as it could assist the investigation.

Appeal for Information

Sergeant Jill Kirkpatrick of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Inglis at this very difficult time.

“Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward.

“In particular, we are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has any dashcam footage that could assist our investigation.”
