BVB announce Hummels injury blow

Declan Rice has been ruled out of West Ham's clash at Inter Milan on Thursday as David Moyes' side look to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Rice suffered a minor knock in training and missed the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Sunday, with Moyes revealing the midfielder is a major doubt for the trip to Italy.

"Declan picked up a knock in training," Moyes said. "He's got a bit of a jarred knee. He's not been able to train the last few days and we'll give him every chance to see if he can make the trip. But it's a big ask."

The news is a blow for West Ham, who are already without several key players due to injury.

Kurt Zouma, Aaron Cresswell, and Gianluca Scamacca are all out, while Nayef Aguerd and Maxwel Cornet are long-term absentees.

Despite the injury problems, Moyes is confident West Ham can overturn the deficit at the San Siro.

"We've got a lot of quality in our squad," Moyes said. "We've got players who can come in and do a job.

"We know it's a tough task, but we're not going to give up. We're going to go there and give it our best shot."

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund have been handed a blow ahead of their Champions League last-16 clash with Chelsea.

Mats Hummels has been ruled out of the first leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday with a thigh injury.

The defender picked up the injury in Dortmund's 1-0 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday.

"Mats Hummels will miss the first leg of our Champions League tie against Chelsea due to a thigh injury," Dortmund said in a statement.

"The defender picked up the injury in our 1-0 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday.

"He underwent an MRI scan on Sunday which confirmed the extent of the injury."

"Hummels is expected to be out for around three weeks."

The news is a blow for Dortmund, who are already without several key players due to injury.

Gio Reyna, Youssoufa Moukoko, and Karim Adeyemi are all out, while Sebastien Haller is a long-term absentee.

Despite the injury problems, Dortmund will be confident of getting a result at Stamford Bridge.

They beat Chelsea 1-0 in the group stage of the Champions League earlier this season.
