Vernon Kay 'didn't tell the kids' about new gig as 'only Tess knew'
Vernon Kay 'didn't tell the kids' he had landed a new role on BBC Radio 2 because 'only Tess knew'.
The TV presenter revealed he had replaced Ken Bruce on his mid-morning show in a shock announcement last week, but Vernon admitted he waited to tell his children until the news had broken.
Speaking to Dermot O'Leary about his new role on his BBC Radio 2 show, Vernon joked that his kids had heard about it from everyone else before him.
"I didn't tell the kids, only Tess knew. They heard it from everyone else first, but they were very excited," he said.
Vernon landed the job after Ken Bruce announced he would be stepping down from his mid-morning show after 31 years at the station.
The move came as a surprise to many, but Vernon said he was "honoured" to be taking over from such a broadcasting legend.
"It's a huge honour. I'm still pinching myself. I grew up listening to Ken Bruce. He's a broadcasting legend, and I'm just so excited. It's going to be a lot of fun," he said.
Vernon will start his new role on BBC Radio 2 in May. He will present the mid-morning show from Monday to Friday, between 9.30am and 12pm.
