Jerry Yates inspires Derby to first away win of the season
Derby County secured their first away win of the season as they beat Cambridge United 3-0 at the Abbey Stadium.
Yates scored twice in the second half to add to Conor Hourihane's first-half opener. The win lifted Derby up to 18th in the League One table, while Cambridge dropped to 15th.
Derby started brightly and took the lead in the 35th minute when Hourihane fired home from the edge of the area.
Yates doubled the lead in the 55th minute with a close-range finish after good work from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.
The striker then made it 3-0 in the 75th minute with a header from a Max Bird cross.
Derby boss Paul Warne was delighted with his team's performance.
"I thought we were excellent from start to finish," he said.
"We controlled the game and created a lot of chances. We could have scored more goals, but I'm very happy with the three points."
Cambridge boss Mark Bonner was disappointed with his team's performance.
"We were second best all over the pitch," he said.
"We didn't create enough chances and we didn't defend well enough. We need to be better than that if we want to challenge for promotion."
